About Us

The Full Story

Back in the late part of 2021 Vicky and Dave decided to change the whole way of life they had for the last 20 odd years. In December that year, they purchased the Examiners Shop newsagents, which was known as Calverts.

This was a whole new venture for both as Dave comes from an Engineering background, and Vicky from a Paramedic background.

Delivering newspapers and magazines to the south of the island and catering for Port St Mary's fabulous community felt like both a DAUNTING task, but also one that would reward them and the community greatly. since taking over in Feb 2022, the shop has had some rework and redesign, along with an addition of lots of new things.

the Name? well that was one that Vicky has credit for. We thought for a while and ended up deciding that using our two boys names somehow would be best for us. However, Hayden and Torryn thought it would be great (and kinda funny) to put them together as HAYTOR but thankfully the adults decided not to use that!

Instead, we took the the first three letters of Torryn's name and the last three of Hayden's and come up with

TORDEN. the name stuck!

since moving in, and finding our feet (not sure if the platform is stable yet!!!) we modelled the shop to what we wanted. Thankfully we had started with a very good base, one which as it was did perfectly well on its own merits.

But nothing feels like your own until you make it your own.

One thing we really wanted to do was make sure we were a community shop. We have pictures and items up on display from people all round Port St Mary and always welcome anything that shows off our gorgeous little Port.

Manx gifts are a speciality here, all hand made here on the island,  true Manx made gifts that will be perfect to send home or keep for yourself.

We specialise in sweets for the children, our range is huge and forever evolving. we keep the sweets down low, and available for even the youngest to choose. we also cater for weigh out sweets in traditional bottles.

Torden stores also has the Mannin Prop Shop,  Greeting cards, a HUGE range of cold drinks, Manx meats and sausages, honey and jams.

in the colder months, we also serve homemade Manx slices, hot ready to eat.

So thats how this all started. now its up to you!

come visit us, see our range of beautiful gifts and take home a real piece of Manx.
